HOUSING FOR DISABLED VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILY
The Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania has a long and fascinating history of industrial development and cultural heritage. It was a major manufacturing hub in the American Industrial Revolution. The opening of the Lehigh Canal in 1827 transformed Allentown and the Lehigh Valley from a rural agricultural area into an urbanized industrial area . The region experienced a period of significant industrialization throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, and Bethlehem Steel became the nation's second-largest manufacturer of steel as a result of the company's ascent during the 20th century . Bethlehem Steel was used in many of the nation's early and largest infrastructure and building projects and its steel was used in developing many of the nation's earliest and largest infrastructure and building projects . Unfortunately, the region's manufacturing sector declined rapidly since the 1980s due to foreign competition, trade practices, operational costs, regulations, and other factors, and Bethlehem Steel suspended most of its operations in the early 1980s, declared bankruptcy in 2001, and was dissolved in 2003 . Despite this, large companies from China and Germany have invested significant amounts in developing operations in the Lehigh Valley, resulting in the creation of thousands of jobs in the region . Moreover, the area has also seen renewed growth in the manufacturing sector due to increased demand for American-made products and other factors . In addition, Lehigh Valley has also emerged as a national center for the U.S. logistics industry, especially in warehousing and intermodal transport, and other sectors such as financial services, health care, life sciences, and technology have been developed to replace the manufacturing sector . The region has also become a national warehouse and distribution hub due to its proximity to U.S. markets and lower operating costs . Bethlehem also has a diverse industrial base of technology and industrial parks, and the city has managed to thrive even after the demise of the steel industry.
